Clear Vision, Bright Futures
Clear vision and healthy eyes are key to helping your child thrive in school, in play, and every single day. Whether it’s identifying refractive errors like nearsightedness, detecting issues such as amblyopia (lazy eye), or recommending fun glasses that fit their vibe, our comprehensive pediatric eye exams help us understand your child’s particular vision needs.
We’ve designed these eye exams especially for kids to be fun and engaging. Even if your little one isn’t chatty, we have ways to get an accurate prescription. And while our exams begin at age 4, you’re always welcome to discuss any concerns about your younger child’s vision with us.

How Often Do Kids Need Eye Exams?
Imagine trying to learn in school when you can’t see the board clearly. It’s a challenge many kids face without even realizing it’s not normal. That’s why yearly eye exams are so important for school-aged children.
Uncorrected vision problems can impact your child’s academic performance, confidence, and overall development.
Our compassionate eye doctors love working with young patients. By spotting vision-related issues early, like difficulty focusing or blurry vision, we give your child the vision help they need.
Does Your Child Have an Undiagnosed Vision Issue?
Did you know that a whopping 80% of what children learn in school comes through their vision? And many, many kids are diagnosed with learning difficulties when, in fact, a vision problem is usually the real culprit.
But here’s the tricky part—not all kids can tell when their eyesight isn’t up to par, and the signs aren’t always obvious to us parents, either.
To kids, blurry words on a page or struggling to catch a ball might seem normal. That’s why it’s so important to keep an eye out for signs of potential vision problems.
Signs of Vision Problems in Kids
If your child constantly squints, tilts their head, or holds things unusually close, we recommend bringing them in for an eye exam.
Keep in mind that vision issues don’t always look like vision issues. Difficulty focusing in class, avoiding reading, or even frequent headaches can all point to eyesight concerns.
If your child or teen is falling behind in school or struggling with tasks that should be fun, it might just be their eyes calling for attention.
With regular eye exams, we can help uncover and fix hidden issues, potentially making learning a more exciting adventure for your child.
Common Vision Issues in Children
Your kids grow up fast (sometimes too fast!) and their vision often changes rapidly, too. In their eye exam, we’re checking if they have a refractive error that causes blurred vision, or if their prescription has changed. We’re also testing how their eyes work together and assessing how their entire visual system is developing.
Whatever we find in their exam, we’ll explain it all and take the time needed to help you feel comfortable with our answers.
During your child’s eye exam, we carefully check for the following conditions.
Refractive Errors
Refractive errors happen when the shape of your child’s eye prevents light from focusing directly on the retina, which can make their vision blurry or fuzzy.
This common issue can result in nearsightedness (difficulty seeing far away), farsightedness (difficulty seeing up close), or astigmatism (distorted vision, almost like a funhouse mirror).
The good news? Refractive errors are easily correctable with prescription glasses or contact lenses! These simple solutions can help your child see the world more clearly and comfortably.
Amblyopia (Lazy Eye)
When one eye doesn’t develop proper vision, it can result in reduced vision, a condition often referred to as “lazy eye” or amblyopia.
But it has nothing to do with laziness! It can happen when the brain and the affected eye don’t work together properly, leading the brain to rely more on the stronger eye.
Catching amblyopia early can make a big difference in successful treatment. Addressing it in childhood improves the chances of restoring normal vision and preventing long-term complications.
Strabismus (Crossed Eyes)
Misaligned eyes, also known as crossed eyes or strabismus, can disrupt your child’s depth perception. It can lead to long-term vision problems if it’s left untreated. If your child’s eyes don’t appear to be straight at all times, please bring them in for an exam.
Eye misalignment can affect a child’s ability to focus and track objects and even impact their learning and daily activities.

What Our Patients Are Saying
“A Wealth of Knowledge”
I came here for the first time and had a great experience! Dr. Boaldin was wonderful not only as a doctor but also as someone who has the best bedside manner. Most doctors are in and out, but he took the time to talk to me and have a conversation. He also has a wealth of knowledge and will explain everything he’s doing and why. And he corrected my prescription, which had been wrong for the past 8 years! They have a huge selection of glasses to choose from and lots of variety for any budget. I definitely will be recommending him to friends and family!
